I tried something different for my problem after looking at what tomthecat did. I examined the files in the Path C:\WINDOWS\eHome. I clicked on medctrro.cmd and it ran. Next time I opened Media Center everything functioned perfectly and has continued to do so after rebooting. Whatever the sp3 for xp messed up on mce 2002 this appears to have fixed it.
